Overview
The Sierra Valley Resource Conservation
District (SVRCD) is one of the oldest Special District’s in
California, having been coordinating local conservation and
restoration programs since the 1940's. Resource Conservation
Districts (RCDs) were organized for the purposes of soil, water
and related natural resource conservation. Categories of focused
interest for the Sierra Valley RCD include natural disaster
readiness & prevention, agricultural stability, urban development
and highest/best-use zoning, wildlife habitat, recreation, watershed
management, protection of water quality and quality, and the
optimum treatment of each resource and lands according to the
need. The SVRCD has demonstrated success with this wide variety
of resource challenges.
Partnerships
The SVRCD works in
cooperation with federal, state and local government entities,
particularly the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service,
in providing a large variety of technical and educational services
to land managers and residents of the District. SVRCD fosters
cooperation and working relationships with a coalition of all
agencies and organizations to further our mission.
Goals
The long-range overall goals and objectives include:
- resource protection, management and assistance
- outreach and education
- promotion of economic and agricultural viability
- development of infrastructure
Management of these goals may be conducted by subcommittees or by the whole Board of Directors.
